At the 2024 MTV Europe Music Awards, Taylor Swift stands out by winning four major awards.
American pop star Taylor Swift shone at the 2024 MTV Europe Music Awards (EMA), scooping four top awards. The event, which took place in Manchester, celebrated the biggest names in the global music scene. Absent from the ceremony, the 34-year-old artist was distinguished in the categories: artist of the year, best live artist, best video for “Fortnight” in collaboration with Post Malone, and best American artist.
Although Swift was unable to attend, she expressed her gratitude in a pre-recorded video message, citing her “sadness” at not attending the event: “The fact that you won awards for the tour, the album and the video is just incredible”she confided, greeting her artistic partner Post Malone.
Despite seven nominations, Taylor Swift had to cede the title of pop artist of the year to Ariana Grande. The trophies add to a successful year for Swift, highlighted by her fourth Grammy for album of the year in February, setting an all-time record. His “Eras” tour remains, moreover, the most lucrative ever.
Diversified talents
The ceremony highlighted various artists, starting with the American Benson Boone, winner of the title of revelation of the year, who opened the evening with an impressive performance. South African Tyla won three awards, including best R&B artist.
Lisa, Thai K-pop artist, also made an impression by winning in the best collaboration (with Rosalia for “New Woman”) and best fan base categories.
Sabrina Carpenter received the trophy for song of the year for her title “Espresso”, while Eminem, back with a new album, was elected “best hip-hop artist” for the tenth time.
Oasis icon Liam Gallagher won the award for best rock artist, a nod to the legendary group’s reunion announced for a world tour, 15 years after their split.
Although the ceremony wanted to include international artists, the Anglo-Saxons dominated. Latino artists, purveyors of global hits, have not established themselves in any general category. In the Latin music category, it was the Mexican artist Peso Plua who won against Shakira or Karol G. In electronic music, Calvin Harris triumphed, leaving the French David Guetta and DJ Snake on the sidelines. In the France category, the interpreter of “Djadja”, Aya Nakamura, one of the most listened to French-speaking artists in the world, lost to Pierre Garnier, revealed in the Star Academy.
