A wind of nostalgia blows over Gulli. Alf, the cult series from the 1980s returns to the channel from July 1, Monday to Friday at 8:15 p.m. The little hairy alien with a prominent nose and a baritone voice became the darling of children when he landed in France in 1988 on Antenne 2. The new generation will be able to get to know this Martian who is always ready to get into mischief. In this sitcom where the gags are punctuated with pre-recorded laughter, the Tanners, played by the late William Tanner (Max Wright), voiced by the star of Scenes of households Gérard Hernandez, Katherine Tanner (Anne Schedeen), Lynn Tanner (Andrea Elson) and Brian Tanner (Benji Gregory) take in an alien while he can repair his ship. Weeks turn into months, then years, and the little Martian becomes a full-fledged member of the family. To protect him, they do everything to hide him but they have a very curious neighbor (played by Liz Sheridan, also deceased). On his planet, the cat is a tasty delicacy and he takes advantage of the slightest opportunity to try to eat the house cat, in particular by hypnotizing him so that he thinks he is a madeleine!

Alf : Behind the alien, the magic of a puppet

The success of the series is due to this character’s propensity to do stupid things and break the rules and to the hilarious dialogues, voiced by the memorable voice of Roger Carel [qui nous quittait en 2020]. But not only. A team of talented puppeteers worked on set to bring Alf to life. At the helm, Paul Fusco, the creator of the series, had the help of puppeteers Lisa Buckley and Bob Fappiano. the short actor Mihály Mészáros [décédé en 2016] who donned the furry costume of the alien when it was supposed to appear standing in the image. Behind the comic aspect, the series carries a beautiful message of tolerance in the face of differences.

Alf : a series available in all flavors

The success of the series was such that the character’s life extended well beyond the four seasons and 101 episodes (and a TV movie) that it counted. Alf thus made an appearance in The Simpsons Or Mr. Robot. The series Beverly Hills 91210, The Big Bang Theory And Stargate SG-1 paid tribute to him. The alien even hosted his own talk show across the Atlantic and was produced in two animated series and a video game. Not to mention countless figurines and soft toys. Thirty-six years later, Alf has all the ingredients to take back the world!
