Mass Hysteria bassist Jamie Ryan returns with his solo project Sluagh and a second single titled Outrage. This track, from the EP Desertmarks a new stage in Ryan’s musical exploration, blending raw power and haunting melodies to deliver a post-Black Metal experience that is both introspective and profound.
A project born from introspection and isolation
Conceived during the pandemic, Sluagh is the result of intense introspection and a need to channel buried emotions. Inspired by the dark world of bands like Deafheaven, Deluge and Celeste, the project explores themes such as melancholy, mourning and memories. Very different from the compositions of Mass Hysteria, Sluagh is distinguished by a fluid and intuitive musical approach, centered on oppressive and melodic atmospheres, and a visceral dimension which reflects the emotional depth of its creator.

Desert : an EP built around the theme of mourning
With DesertSluagh pushes the musical exploration towards darker and more poignant sounds. Conceptually, this EP addresses the five stages of grief, inspired by Ryan’s personal losses, whether it be the loss of loved ones or the end of an idealized youth. Through titles like Outrage, Desert touches on universal emotions and invites the listener on an introspective journey.
