PEOPLE – Eye to eye, and without a word, they shared their mourning. Liam Payne’s father met his son’s fans in Argentina in an emotional moment. Geoff Payne arrived early in the morning in Buenos Aires, Argentina, Friday October 18. He went to the scene of the tragedy, at the CasaSur Palermo Hotel, where his son, famous member of One Direction, died on Wednesday.
Upon his arrival, the British singer’s father was assailed by a horde of journalists and paparazzi, struggling to gain access to the interior of the hotel. Some fans of Liam Payne physically intervened to prevent them from taking photos and protect the father of their idol. Geoff Payne was then filmed on a hotel balcony where his son fell to his death.
According to local media, he was to collect his son’s personal effects during his visit and organize the repatriation of the body to the United Kingdom.
In front of the hotel, he took the time to pay his respects in front of the memorial created by the fans around a tree on the sidewalk, in the Palermo district. Flowers, photos, candles and tributes have been piling up there since the death of Liam Payne. Geoff Payne took the time to read a few messages.
