From “Can’t Get You Out Of My Head” to “Magic”: a look back at Kylie Minogue’s hits that marked a generation

Kylie Minogue, global pop icon, will be in concert on July 1 at the Sportpaleis in Antwerp. With more than 100 million albums sold and a career punctuated by hits, the Australian singer promises a show not to be missed. You probably know them all, but some of his hits may have slipped through the cracks of your memories… A look back at a career punctuated by songs that made us dance tirelessly!

It’s impossible to talk about Kylie Minogue without talking about “Can’t Get You Out Of My Head”. This iconic hit released in 2001 has become a timeless pop anthem. And yet, did you know that the song was first proposed to… Sophie Ellis-Bextor? The latter refused it, but Kylie did not hesitate for a single second to take it after listening for only 20 seconds. A choice that marked his career, because this title remains his biggest success to this day.

The futuristic clip, with its very low-cut outfits and minimalist settings, also caused a sensation. Kylie has thus taken a bold stylistic turn, moving away from her disco image to dive into a more modern and sexy aesthetic.

Two years later, in 2003, Kylie followed up with another memorable hit “Slow”, while remaining in this very neo pop wave. This sensual piece is accompanied by an equally sultry clip, filmed in a public swimming pool in Barcelona. Dancers in tiny swimsuits, rikiki towels and a caliente atmosphere, the video left its mark. Besides, fun fact, this same pool recently reappeared in Dua Lipa’s “Illusions” music video.

Kylie’s fight against breast cancer

In 2005, at the height of her career, Kylie had to take a forced break after being diagnosed with breast cancer. A difficult moment, but she came back stronger than ever in 2007 with the album “X”in a more rock and more combative style. The public is won over, with titles like “In My Arms” which reconnect with pop.

Ups and downs

After several successes, Kylie experienced a less glorious period, marked by albums that had difficulty finding their audience. She even tried her hand at the traditional Christmas album, a must for the stars. However, it was in 2020, after the pandemic, that Kylie made a strong comeback with her album “Disco”, making us dance again.

This Friday, October 18, Kylie Minogue will release her new album, “Tension II”, an anticipated sequel to “Tension”, released last year. With this new project, Kylie shows that she is still ready to push the boundaries of pop, almost 40 years after her debut.
