Alex Van Halen, older brother of legendary guitarist Eddie Van Halen, recently discussed the possibility of using artificial intelligence to finish unreleased tracks that he and his brother had recorded but never completed. In an interview with Rolling Stone, Alex explained that he contacted OpenAI to explore the idea of generating new guitar solos based on Eddie’s “playing patterns.”

Unfinished pieces awaiting finalization

Last September, Alex Van Halen revealed that there was still a lot of unreleased material recorded with Eddie, in various stages of completion. He even shared a snippet of the latest track they worked on together, appropriately titled Unfinished. These pieces, although promising, remained in embryonic form, as Alex confirmed in this new interview.

“They’re all little pieces,” Alex Van Halen told Rolling Stone, adding that “sequences of riffs do not make a song.”

Despite this, Alex seems determined to explore new ways to bring this unfinished material to life. The idea of using artificial intelligence to create guitar solos based on Eddie Van Halen’s characteristic playing patterns is one of the avenues being considered.

Intriguing plans for the future

Alex Van Halen also shared another surprising idea: he hopes the tracks could be completed with vocals performed by Robert Plant, the iconic singer of Led Zeppelin, although he admits not having spoken to Plant in over 30 years . “You’re going to think I’m completely crazy,” he joked. “But when the conditions are right, things will manifest.”

In that same interview, Alex revealed several exciting anecdotes, like the secret jams Eddie allegedly shared with Chris Cornell, as well as confirmation of rumors regarding a possible Van Halen tribute tour with Joe Satriani and David Lee Roth (who has since fallen into the water).

A biography coming soon

Alex Van Halen is about to release a book called Brotherswhich explores her relationship with Eddie. This book will be available from October 22 and can be pre-ordered on the official Van Halen website.
