The university noted in particular the fact that it has created and produced since 2021 the first program broadcast across Canada to celebrate National Indigenous Peoples Day, the Great Solstice.

During the preparation of great solstice last year, the singer launched: I think that the look that comes from home is important to understand things.

Concordia also praised its production company, Sanajik Films, which also produces documentaries based on Aboriginal and Inuit visions, says the statement from the university.

Born in Salluit, Nunavik, the Inuk singer will release a cover album on September 15: Inuktitut. She has already unveiled an Inuktitut cover of the song heart of glass and one of Time After Timemega success of Cindy Lauper renamed for the occasion Taimangalimaaq.

Last September, she launched the new season of the Orchester métropolitain with a performance of nearly 20 minutes in which she was able to transport the public to her home in Nunavik.

Elisapie Isaac is one of nine new honorary doctorates awarded by Concordia to remarkable people who have distinguished themselves in various fieldsincluding philanthropy, diplomacy and health research.

It features world-renowned award-winning author, former Indian diplomat and television host Vikas Swarup whose film Slumdog Millionaire is adapted from one of his novels; health research pioneer Deborah Estrin; a socially committed business leader Rodolphe Saadé; or an engineer and manager recognized for her inclusive leadership, Kathy Baig.

These honorary doctorates will be awarded during the convocation ceremonies from June 20 to 22, 2023.

In 2018, Concordia awarded an honorary doctorate to Anishinabe Édith Cloutier, executive director of the Val-d’Or Native Friendship Centre, and to Cree lawyer Wilton Littlechild, one of the three commissioners of the Truth and Reconciliation, a former chief who defends the rights of indigenous peoples.
