HAS 77 years old, he left the stage but keeps his humor so british…During the New York premiere of his documentary Elton John : Never Too Latethe British singer couldn’t resist a bit of humor regarding his health and his aging body, which he spent several times on the billiards table. “To be honest with you, there’s not much left of me,” quipped “Rocketman” during a speech after the screening of the documentary (scheduled for December on Disney+).

“I no longer have my tonsils, appendix and prostate,” he said shamelessly, as reported by the People site. I no longer have a right hip or left knee. In fact, the only thing I have left is my left hip. But I’m still here! »

In fact, Elton John is almost a showbiz survivor: drugs almost took him away several times when, by his own admissions, he got high on cocaine and alcohol, not to mention his bouts of bulimia which damaged his body under severe strain. He survived an overdose in 1975 and took years to shake off his excesses and multiple addictions, only achieving sobriety in the early 1990s.

Elton John stopped the stage, but not the music

Another very serious alert: when he almost developed peritonitis, in 2013, after a very nasty appendicitis that he delayed in treating due to touring. “I was a ticking time bomb. I think I could have died at any time,” he later confided to the British press, relieved to have escaped the worst – the doctors had authorized him to take the plane, believing that he simply suffered from inflammation of the colon…

“I am lucky to have a body that recovers very well from illness,” the artist regularly says when faced with the health problems he has faced: prostate cancer, hip problems, operations on both knees. and, most recently, a serious eye infection that left him with “vision limited to one eye.” “I am healing, but it is an extremely slow process and it will take some time before sight returns to the affected eye,” he said recently on Instagram.

It is also for these reasons that the pop music star decided to stop performing at the end of his farewell tour last year, one of the most lucrative of all time (more than 900 million dollars raised). “As you know, I decided to stop touring because I’m 77 years old and I’ve done everything I wanted to do,” he said during the preview at New York.

However, there is no question of stopping music and composition; the singer could even release a new album. But his priority now is his family, his husband David and their children Zachary, 13, and Elijah, 11, whom he wants to see grow up alongside him during the last years he has left to live. After all, Sir Elton has ample means to enjoy retirement by drawing on his colossal fortune, estimated at a minimum of 500 million euros.
