This October 5, Francis Perrin will be the guest of Éric Dussart and Jade in We’re doing TV again, RTL’s weekly media broadcast on Saturdays from 11:30 a.m. During the recording of the show, the star of the French detective series Mongeville recounted his unforgettable meeting with Michael Jackson. It was when he played in The Wall Passer at the Théâtre des Bouffes Parisiens in 1997, a play set to music by Michel Legrand. It was during one of these performances that he had the honor of counting Michael Jackson among his spectators. The latter, who knew Michel Legrand well, was perhaps considering playing the main role in an adaptation of the Wall pass. “Michael Jackson came to see me play“, remembers Francis Perrin. “He came to the Bouffes Parisiens theater one evening, accompanied by Stanley Donen, the director of Let’s sing in the rain.” A significant event for the actor, who spoke behind the scenes of this beautiful meeting on the microphone of our colleagues at RTL.

The theater man, who prefers not to know in advance when celebrities are in the room, only learned of Michael Jackson’s presence at the end of the performance: “I saw that there was a certain excitement (…) when there were the salutes, I saw Michael Jackson“. When the lights came on for the finale, Francis Perrin had a rather surprising reaction: “I even allowed myself to do a moonwalk.” A gesture which was greeted by Michael Jackson himself, who stood up to applaud him. Surrounded by two imposing bodyguards, the one nicknamed MJ then visited the entire troupe backstage after the performance: “He came to see us backstage. He congratulated me and we talked“.

Another touching gesture, but this time from the singer of the title Billie Jean, marked Francis Perrin: “He did a wonderful thing at intermission. He told all the children in the room to come to the office. Jean-Claude Brialy (the director of the theater at the time, editor’s note) and he signed them autographs.” Despite the memorable presence of Michael Jackson, Francis Perrin admitted to having been more impressed by the presence of the director of Let’s sing in the rain. “It made me happy (to meet Michael Jackson, editor’s note), but I was more impressed by Stanley Donen“, he confided on RTL.
