Free is reportedly preparing the announcement of a new box called Super Player. According to the first information available, it would be an Android TV box. Let’s take stock.
It’s already been a year since the Freebox Ultra came to enrich the catalog of Free. A concentrate of power and technology which nevertheless did not succeed in making us forget an essential point: it arrived alone. However, the subscribers would not have spat on a TV box up to the new box. Xavier Niel quickly came to confirm that such a device was planned, but since then, we are still waiting. It resurfaces not through a teaser of which the operator has the secret, but through a benchmark.

Published on Geekbench and spotted by Internet user Tiino-X83 on X (Twitter), the document tells us several things. First a name, the Super Player. Nothing very original at this level. At least it has the merit of announcing the ambitions of Free, known for wanting to offer cutting-edge equipment. Next come details on the technical sheet of the case. While some are quite logical, others are surprising.
-The future Super Player TV box, dedicated to the Freebox Ultra, is revealed a little
The Freebox Super Player would rotate using a ARMv8 processor whose 5 cores are clocked at 2.02 GHz. The number of cores is unusual, chips of this type generally having 4, 6 or 8. To accompany the component, we would find 4 GB of RAM.
Based on the identifier of the chip, we deduce that it comes from Rockship or Broadcomknowing that the two companies manufacture them for TV boxes or more generally televisions. Broadcom was associated with Free for the Freebox Mini 4K For example.
On the software side, Android 14 is expected. The benchmark then delivers the device’s results on different tests, in single-core and multi-core. Other than that, there’s not much to get your teeth into. In all likelihood, Free should present the Freebox Super Player in the year 2025.
