Companion breaks everything with its crazy trailer between killing and freewheeling sex robot

One of the most intriguing horror films of 2025, Companionreveals more in a new trailer.

The first trailer for Companion released in early October 2024 was particularly enigmatic. We saw Sophie Thatcher there (discovered in Yellowjackets) and Jack Quaid (the Hughie of The Boys) getting ready to enjoy a romantic dinner, before realizing that the young woman was in fact tied to her chair. Then followed a series of very short extracts that were indistinguishable but full ofpunchy and tantalizing images.

In this new trailer for Drew Hancock’s first feature film, which also gives a glimpse of Harvey Guillén (What we do in the Shadowz) and Lukas Gage (Smile 2), the story of the film becomes clearer, and becomes even more intriguing. We learn in particular that the young woman, called Iris and persecuted by Josh, would in fact be… a freewheeling sex robot.

The Companion in the eye

This new trailer takes the side of detail the pitch of the film in much more detailafter the attention of genre film fans was captured by the first teaser. Here again, we start on a romantic comedy atmosphere : delicately vintage vocals in the background, a young woman strolling through a store with a shopping cart, a young man who meets her gaze, and the female voice-over who tells us about the day she “met Josh”.

The two future lovebirds break the ice and exchange their first names. And just like for the first trailer, it’s the break, since Iris’s voice continues with the day she… “killed Josh”. And here we go again for the much gorier and more surprising extracts, which seem, this time, to reveal that young Iris is in fact a robot. But not just any: a robot for sexual use, which discovers with horror its true nature before wanting to emancipate oneself from it by all means.

How to miss a date

A construction which is not a coincidence, since the trailer boxes highlight the words “by the creators of Barbarous”, Barbarous being a horror film that has marked the spirits in 2022 thanks to its radical turnaround. The “creators” in question are Zach Cregger and Roy Lee, respectively director and producer of Barbarouswho produce here Companion alongside Raphael Margules and JD Lifshitz.

However, the tone of the trailer suggests a film with less unhealthy atmospheres than Barbarousand above all a film with more humor. However, the blood seems to be there, just to draw popular themes towards pop horror. Blade Runner (or at Pinocchio). And we have to admit: we can’t wait. This is good, since Companion is expected from January 29 in French cinemas.
