Sonic 3: The Movie: ending explained | M.A.G.

A powerful new adversary threatens to destroy Earth, so Sonic (Ben Schwartz), Knuckles and Tails team up again in “Sonic 3: The Movie(“Sonic The Hedgehog 3” in its original language), the third live-action film in the franchise that premiered on December 20, 2024 in the United States and on December 25 in Latin America. Shadow's (Keanu Reeves) powers are unlike anything the protagonists have ever known, so the team needs to establish an unlikely alliance in the hopes of stopping the villain. The film that is inspired by the video games “Sonic Adventure 2” (2001) and “Shadow the Hedgehog” (2005) begins with Prison Island, where the United Guardians of the Nations (GUN) is holding Shadow, who takes advantage of a flaw in the system to escape and start destroying everything around him.

Meanwhile, Sonic, Tails and Knuckles (Idris Elba) make a race that takes them to the surprise that Tom (James Marsden) and Maddie Wachowski (Tika Sumpter) organized to celebrate their first anniversary living with them. Later, Captain Rockwell (Krysten Ritter), head of GUN, shows up and asks Team Sonic to travel to Tokyo to stop an evil hedgehog causing chaos.

The protagonist of “Sonic 3: The Movie” He tries to talk to Shadow, who refuses to listen to him when he sees that he is related to GUN and tries to leave. Determined to confront him, Knuckles stops him, but Shadow proves to be stronger and defeats him without problems. The rest of the team joins the fight, but they are powerless against the dangerous opponent.

After Team Sonic's defeat, Commander Walters (Tom Butler) explains to them that Shadow arrived on Earth in 1974. GUN found him in a meteorite and used his chaos energy for his experiments. While Gerald Robotnik (Jim Carrey) studied him, the hedgehog spoke with Maria, the scientist's granddaughter. When the girl is killed in an explosion, Shadow and Gerald seek revenge.

When the duo is caught, Robotnik is taken to prison and Shadow is locked up. Years later, Gerald orchestrates the escape of Shadow, with whom he orchestrates an attack against Team Sonic. After surviving Shadow's attack, Team Sonic seeks out Tom and Maddie to help them get the other one found in GUN's lair in London. To achieve this, the Wachowskis use suits that allow them to change shape. The problem is that the Robotniks also arrive on the scene and cause chaos.

Although Tom, in the guise of Commander Walters, steals the key, Shadow attacks him, believing it to be the Walters, and takes the key. Tom is seriously injured, which motivates the protagonist of “Sonic the Hedgehog 3″to turn to the Chaos Emeralds, despite the advice of his friends.

With the emeralds, Sonic transforms into Super Sonic, however, when facing Shadow, he loses them. He manages to get them back, but Shadow touches them too. They both increase their powers and face each other until the blue hedgehog wins the battle. Before delivering the final blow, he realizes that he has gone too far. After a heart-to-heart talk, Shadow realizes that Maria wouldn't approve of his plan, so they set out to stop the eclipse cannon.

When Gerald Robotnik tells his grandson of his true plan, Eggman decides to stop him. Tails and Knuckles arrive in time to get rid of the scientist. They manage to redirect the laser, but it hits the Moon. As Sonic loses his energy and his friends use a ring to save him, Eggman and Shadow sacrifice themselves to stop the deadly weapon.

At the end of “Sonic 3: The Movie”, Tom recovers, Sonic apologizes to Tails and Knuckles, and the latter three start another race. In the first post-credits scene, Sonic arrives at a forest where he finds himself surrounded by several Metal Sonics. A mysterious character appears and eliminates the danger. Who is it about? In the second post-credits scene, Shadow returns to Earth, which means he did not die after the Eclipse Canyon explosion. Is Eggman alive too? Will Shadow join Team Sonic?
