New films and series to watch on Netflix from November 29 to December 5, 2024

Every week, Netflix adds films and series to its catalog, but it's not always easy to navigate. Écran Large is here to help you: here are the new features added by Netflix from November 29 to December 5, 2024, films and series combined, in a non-exhaustive list.

What are the films and series not to be missed this week on the streaming platform?

SENNA

  • Already available
  • Duration: 6 episodes of approximately 1 hour

What is it about? The career of Ayrton Senna, a driver driven by his concern for justice in the world of sport.

Why should you watch it? You're a little tired of Drive to Survive only interested in the duality between Max Verstappen and the rest of the paddock? And are you a little disappointed that the series constantly mentions Ayrton Senna without really knowing who this immense Formula 1 driver is? That's good, Netflix has decided to tell the story of the Brazilian driver in this mini-series looking back on his entire journey, both on and off the circuits, with Senna.

Given the trailer, I'm not sure that Vicente Amorim's creation is much more than an ordinary biopic like many in Hollywood, but it's impossible for any self-respecting fan not to be tempted by the adventure. . Especially since if the narration seems classic, visually, Netflix seems to have put in the means to honor the famous motorsport.

La Brea

  • Available December 1, 2024
  • Duration: 2h07
If you hold out until then, there are dinosaur rewards in season 3

What is it about? When a massive sinkhole forms in Los Angeles, those who fall into it find themselves trapped in a primitive world where they have no choice but to band together to survive.

Why should you watch it? Quite scratched by the press, this American series has just ended after three seasons of good and loyal service. The broadcast on Netflix therefore gives the opportunity to see everything. Created by David Appelbaum (screenwriter previously on Mentalist et NCIS: New ), At the time, she was entitled to an appearance on TF1. And according to the feedback, it recalls the absurd series typical of American cable in the 2000s, lousy special effects included.

However, it shows a certain ambition with its apocalyptic pitch and its promise of gratinated personal conflicts. Who knows, maybe the streaming platform will give it a second life. After all, that's what she does best.

THE SAMURAI & THE RED CIRCLE

  • Available December 5
  • Duration: 1h45 and 2h20
Delon hat version

What is it about? By Alain Delon who plays a mysterious hitman in The Samuraiand a thief who organizes a big jewelry store heist with two other men in The Red Circle.

Why should you watch it? Because director Jean-Pierre Melville sits among the greatest of French cinema (and cinema in general)and that his films with Alain Delon are among the essentials of the seventh art. Their third and final together, A cop (1972), is not there, but The Samurai (1967) et The Red Circle (1970) are already two cinema lessons.

The first is the most obvious, since this story of mute and lonely hitman largely inspired John Woo (The Killer), Jim Jarmusch (Ghost Dog), Nicolas Winding Refn (Drive) and David Fincher (The Killeron Netflix precisely), without forgetting video games Hitman. So this is what we call an absolute classic.

Thought badly Melville like an urban westernwith carriages instead of horses and prisons instead of saloons, The Red Circle also resonates until today, notably in the cinema of Michael Mann. You only have to (re)watch the heist scene, 25 minutes of implacable quasi-silence, to understand how crazy modern the director was.

Et The Red Circleit is obviously the formidable trio Alain Delon/Yves Montand/Bourvil (of which it is the penultimate film, he died the year of its release), which alone is worth the detour.

BLACK DOVES

  • Available December 5
  • Duration: 6 episodes

What is it about? Helen, who hides her real identity, lives a passionate affair with a lover who is a victim of the London underworld. Helen's employers then send her an old friend to protect her. Both find themselves plunged into a crazy adventure against a backdrop of diplomatic tension.

Why should you watch it? Mainly because Black Doves will mark the return of actress Keira Knightley, who has been rather discreet in recent years, especially in a leading role. The pitch for this series created by Joe Barton (screenwriter of The Lazarus Project, The Union et The Ritual) doesn't reveal much, but espionage is on the rise, especially on Netflix.

We can therefore expect a gripping diplomatic thriller in the vein of The Night Agent which was a hit on the platform. In addition, the trailer suggests a technically well-crafted series which will also be able to count on Ben Whishaw (This Is Going to Hurt, James Bond) and Andrew Koji (Bullet Train, Boy Kills World).

Transformers 1 to 3, Bumblebee, The Williams Method, Return to Zombieland, The Grinch, Harriet, The Holiday, Mr. & Mrs. Smith, Tully, Doubt…
