This science fiction saga with $949 million in revenue arrives on Prime Video

Good news if you like science fiction films! Not one but three films are now available for streaming on Prime Video. It is therefore the perfect time to (re)discover this saga.

It’s a franchise that found its audience from the first film, which arrives on Prime Video this Sunday, October 20. In 2014, came out The Labyrinthadapted from the novel The Ordeal by James Dashner. A film in which we follow Thomas, played by Dylan O’Brien, a young man who wakes up in the middle of a group of other boys after losing consciousness. He doesn’t wake up in the hospital but in a giant maze whose plan changes every night. The memories of his life have strangely disappeared and Thomas struggles to remember his previous world, apart from a few reminiscences concerning a mysterious organization called WICKED. These elements, associated with the clues found in the labyrinth, will allow the young man to hope to escape. The film, which also stars Kaya Scodelario and Thomas Brodie-Sangster, was a success and grossed more than $348 million.

The Labyrinth : two other films for a successful dystopian saga

The following film, The Labyrinth: Scorched Earthwas released in 2015. We find Thomas and his friends The Blockards, who have managed to escape the labyrinth. But what awaits them outside is far from a perfect world. Chaos reigns and the young people will be taken in by Janson, in a shelter where they meet other survivors, including Aris who will become Thomas’ guide in this new world, which turns out to be particularly worrying. The success was less than for the first opus but it nevertheless brought in more than $312 million in revenue. A good omen for planning a third film.

The Labyrinth : is a sequel planned?

Wes Ball therefore directs The Labyrinth: The Deadly Curewhich comes out in 2018. Thomas and the Blocards embark on a perilous rescue mission where they will have to face WICKED once again in an even more dangerous labyrinth. Here again, success is achieved. In total, the saga earned nearly $949 million in revenue. Fans then wondered if a sequel was planned. Wes Ball has said he doesn’t want to make a new film at the moment. In addition to the trilogy, James Dashner also published two novels which serve as a prequel to the story of Thomas and his friends.
