another film confirmed after Gollum, with the return of this cult character

After the movie Lord of the Rings on Gollum, directed and played by Andy Serkis, another feature film would be in preparation.

The return of Lord of the Rings at the cinema is becoming clearer. After the animated film from Sola Entertainment, The Rohirrim Warwhich will be released in cinemas at the end of the year, it is a feature film about Gollum which is being prepared by New Line, The Hunt For Gollum. This new production, directed by actor and filmmaker Andy Serkis, will adapt a note from Tolkien’s novel which tells the hunt for the eponymous character couple Gandalf and Aragorn.

The Lord of the Rings: the re-re-re-re-return of the king

Recently, the interpreter of Gandalf in the films directed by Peter Jackson, Ian McKellen, stated that several films Lord of the Rings with Gollum would be planned. According to him, the actor would have been called back to play in a diptych. This information was rectified by the historical scriptwriter of the sagaPhilippa Boyens, at the media microphone Empire :

“I can tell you with certainty that it’s not two movies! It’s a real misunderstanding because we started working, on paper, on two films in real shots different. The first is The Hunt For Gollumthe second remains to be confirmed. […] We’re playing with a number of ideas, but most of them include Gandalf. The misunderstanding would therefore come from the fact of Gandalf’s double involvement in projects Lord of the Rings. In this same interview, Philippa Boyens gives some details on the plot of The Hunt For Gollumwhich will take place after Bilbo’s birthday party and before the events of the Mines of Moria, told in The Fellowship of the Ring.

Furthermore, the screenwriter also revealed that if The Rohirrim War meets success in theaters at the end of 2024, « a second film [d’animation] absolutely brilliant” could also see the light of day. In short, we’re still going to eat more Lord of the Rings. As a reminder, The Rohirrim War will come out in our French cinemas on December 11.
