“Terrifier 3” destroys everything in its path, “The Wild Robot” traces its path

The horrific Christmas film prohibited for those under 18 makes a sensational entrance, but without overtaking the very beautiful French animated film. “Lee Miller” and “The Story of Souleymane” start off rather well, unlike “The Apprentice”.

LThe surprise of the week is called Terrifier 3. The extremely gory “Christmas movie” by American Damien Leone lands in second place in the weekly ranking, with an incredible total of 254,000 spectators in five days despite a broadcast limited to 154 screens (there were even 28 fewer on Wednesday of its release). This is the second best start for a horror film in 2024, and it is already well above the 70,000 admissions achieved by the second part of the franchise over its entire career, in 2023. This massive and immediate mobilization of fans of the genre is clearly explained by its ban on under-18s, the first since Saw 3 in 2006, which aroused buzz and curiosity. Faced with such enthusiasm, the misdeeds of Art the Clown gained additional screens in the second week.

Having delighted 364,000 young spectators and their companions in 673 cinemas at the end of its first weekend, The Wild Robot takes the lead at the French box office. An ideal launch, the fourth best for an animated film in 2024, before school holidays which will be very favorable if we judge by the first feedback. It’s off to a good start for the biopic too Lee Miller, with Kate Winslet in the role of the war photographer, who ranks third after having convinced 200,000 curious people in five days in 480 theaters.
The beginnings are more difficult for The Apprentice, on the other hand, voted for by only 80,000 moviegoers on 319 screens. Nevertheless, with this work of demystifying Donald Trump, its director Ali Abbasi achieves his best launch.

Satisfaction met for The Story of Souleymane, which shocked 98,000 moviegoers in 204 theaters. Awarded at the last Film Festival in the Un certain regard section, this film on the journey of an undocumented migrant offers, by far, his best start to Boris Lojkine, ahead of that of Camille (19,000 entries in 2019). After a difficult takeoff, finally, Joker: Folie à deux continues to plummet, accumulating only 784,000 tickets sold in twelve days. Superb performance, on the contrary, for Emilia Perez which has just exceeded one million entries.
