In 2006, Lav Diaz won at the FIFF (Fribourg International Film Festival) the Special Prize of the International Jury for Heremias, an eight-hour film. That year, he also presented out of competition Evolution of a Filipino Family which stretched out over fourteen hours! The Filipino, who also works almost exclusively in black and white, told us this: “I use black and white because it allows us to perceive life, even if I speak of reality in another way. That’s why my films are slow, long… and you have to see them all at once! If you want to see my film, do it; if you don’t want to, too bad. I’m happy if ten people stay until the end.
