The Toy Story zoetrope at Walt Disney Studios Park
Inspired by the one created by the teams of Studio Ghibli for the Ghibli Museum in Mitaka (Japan), artists from animation studios Pixar created a zoetrope Toy Story in the mid-2000s to celebrate 20 years since the creation of their label and the opening of the special exhibition on the history of the studio at MoMA in New York. The zoetrope is an optical toy patented in 1867 in the United States whose device made it possible to create the illusion of the movement of images, even before the invention of cinema, thanks to the rapid rotation of a sequence of still images at the same time. inside a cylinder. The zoetrope Toy Story traveled the world for the exhibition on the history of Pixarwhich stopped notably in France in 2013; and landed a few years ago at theAcademy Museum of Motion Pictures from Los Angeles.
Since 2019, the zoetrope of Toy Story of Disneyland Paris was exposed to the building Animation Celebrationnear the main entrance. This living testimony to the history of animation Pixar was removed from its original location as part of the rehabilitation of the building and its surroundings. Animation Celebration will reopen on February 15, with the return of the show Frozen: A Musical Invitation as well as theAnimation Academy.
