One of the most iconic filmmakers in South Korean cinema, Bong Joon-ho enjoyed global success in 2019 with Parasitewhich won the Palme d’Or as well as four cinema Academy Awards, including Best Film, Best Director and Best Original Screenplay. Not content with having convinced many spectators to embark on South Korean cinema – one of the most exciting in the world – this masterpiece was seen as the culmination of Bong Joon-ho’s work.
Six years later, the filmmaker from Daegu returns with a highly anticipated new film: Mickey 17produced by Warner Bros. Discovery and expected for March 5, 2025. After a first trailer published last September, Warner Bros. Discovery has just released a brand new completely crazy trailer. The film, which has already established itself as the most exciting sci-fi film of the year, seems to be a continuation of Bong Joon-ho’s previous workswho since Memories of Murder (2003) et The Host (2006) makes films centered on class struggle. This is also Bong Joon-ho’s second foray into the SF genre; we recall that in 2013 the director adapted the French post-apocalyptic comic strip The Transperceneige In Snowpiercer.
The movie Mickey 17 should in any case bring together fans of SF cinema and South Korean cinema. Besides, fans of Korean productions can rejoice: Park Chan-wook, the legendary director ofOld Boy et Decision to Leaveyesterday shared the first image of his next film, also very promising.
