Following the publication of the latest bulletin from Public Health which testifies to a still intense flu epidemic, the Ministry of Health saw fit to extend the vaccination campaign until February 28.

This is one of the largest influenza epidemics in the last five years. As the flu continues to wreak havoc in France, the Ministry of Health has announced that the vaccination campaign is extended until February 28. The objective: to fight against the epidemic which is still at an intense level, according to the latest report from Public Health France between January 13 and 19, 2025 and relayed by Francebleu.

The institute also speaks of a “hospital activity still high and a still significant impact in terms of deaths“. Indeed, even if we should note a reduction in the number of hospitalizations, it is not drastic either. In the third week of January, there were 14,000 visits to the emergency room, or 4.1% compared to 4 .3% in the second week Hospitalizations also remain high with 2,500 passages, which represents 3.5% of the total, compared to 4.5% the previous week.

The number of deaths close to 7%

Especially since the number of deaths is still high. “6.7% of death certificates declared electronically contained a mention of influenza as a morbid condition that directly caused or contributed to the death, compared to 7.3% the previous week“, indicates Public Health France.

Young people are also hard hit by the disease. The Institute states that “the indicators were generally increasing among those under 15 and decreasing among those 15 and over“, and adds that there is “a clear increase among those under 15, particularly among 5-14 year olds”, while these indicators “were decreasing among those over 15 years old“.
