This film remained number 1 on Netflix for several weeks, it continues to keep subscribers in suspense

Since December 13, this thriller film remains in the top of the most viewed feature films of the moment on Netflix.

Contrary to what one might have believed, Netflix’s most viewed film during the holiday season was not a Christmas romantic comedy. Better: since its release on December 13, this suspense feature film has remained in first position among the most watched of the moment on the streaming platform in and around the world. A success which lasted more than three weeks and which continues at the beginning of January. It’s still in the top 5 almost 25 days after its release, which is unusual enough to be noted.

Sometimes compared to Die Hard (cult action saga which also takes the December holidays as a setting), Carry-On is a thriller that takes place exclusively in an airport, like the second opus of the famous franchise with Bruce Willis. Netflix subscribers follow an air security agent who is blackmailed by a mysterious passenger. The latter requires putting a specific package on a plane on Christmas Eve. If he doesn’t, his girlfriend will be killed, and he will attack thousands of people in the airport. The security agent will have to do everything possible to unmask and arrest this individual.

In the cast of this action film, the public may recognize actor Taron Egerton, who has already made a name for himself thanks to his role in Kingsman or his interpretation of Elton John in Rocketman. He plays opposite Jason Bateman, comic figure of American television and cinema (Arrested Development, How to kill your Boss) who had already tried drama in Ozark. Logan Marshall-Green (Newport Beatch, Prometheus), Sofia Carson (Our bruised hearts, Descendants), Dean Norris (Breaking Bad) and Theo Rossi (Sons of Anarchy, The Penguin) are also in the cast.

As for Internet users, the film divides. For those who praised Carry-On on social networks, the thriller proves to be good entertainment which could become “a Christmas classic”. Others deplore the writing as “a little weak and predictable”. In any case, the film scores 88% positive press reviews on Rotten Tomatoes, but further divides the public with 52% positive reviews. On the French side, Carry-On appealed more to the public, who gave it a spectator rating of 3.3/5. This nonetheless remains one of Netflix’s successes for the end of 2024.
