A page turnsreacted this Tuesday, January 7, 2025, the departmental delegate of the National Rally of Deux-Sèvres, after the death of Jean-Marie Le Pen. “Jean-Marie Le Pen remains the founder of our political family even if the ideas we represent are not the same as at the time”she continues.

This 32-year-old young woman sees in Jean-Marie Le Pen “a deep lover of and the French” : “We can’t take that away from him, he fought in their interest. » She also greets him “a visionary” who was the first to evoke certain themes such as “immigration and national sovereignty”.

The links between Deux-Sèvres and Jean-Marie Le Pen have always been tenuous. The leader of the National Front has never held a major meeting there. In July 2000, he spoke at the Château du Theil in Vausseroux where, traditionally, the party leaders met activists for a country party. A demonstration by opponents was cut short. His arrival in Niort in March 1993, however, did not go unnoticed. Hostile demonstrators booed him and threw eggs at him, at the corner of Boulevard Jean-Moulin and Boulevard de la Liberté, while he met activists in a restaurant on Avenue Saint-Jean.

In 1974, for his first presidential candidacy, Jean-Marie Le Pen received 1,214 votes, or 0.7% of the vote. In 2002, the year he qualified for the second round, he obtained 21,596 votes, 10.38% of the vote, before falling to 13,256 votes (5.79%) in 2007.
