Gaël Monfils scored a fabulous point this Thursday against Novak Djokovic at 2e round of the Brisbane tournament before losing a 20e times in as many meetings against the Serbian (6-3, 6-3).
Unfortunately, this was not enough. Gaël Monfils (38 years old) was opposed, this Thursday, to Novak Djokovic (37 years old) in the 2e round of the Brisbane Tournament (Australia). And the Frenchman, 55e world, was the author of a fabulous point at the start of the second round. While the Serbian was serving, Gaël Monfils made a magnificent half-volley at the end of a breathtaking exchange, which delighted the public. Even the former world No. 1 applauded the Parisian.
But despite this point, Gaël Monfils failed to overcome Novak Djokovic. He lost in two sets (6-3, 6-3), conceding his 20th defeat in 20 matches against the man with 24 Grand Slam titles. A sad record in a face-to-face between two players in ATP history.
And in the quarter-finals, the Serb, now 7e world player, will face, this Friday, the American Reilly Opelka for a place in the last four. An opponent he has never faced on the circuit before.
