Last year, following the change of big bad in the Multiverse Saga, Robert Downey Jr. will return in the costume of the villainous Dr. Doom, and his colleague Chris Evans in a secret role. His character, however, has a good chance of being none other than Captain Hydra: a theory widely supported by fans, but also and especially by a scene cut fromAvengers Age of Ultron…
A scene cut fromAvengers: Age of Ultron demonstrates one of Captain America’s greatest fears
Announced in December, the casting of Chris Evans in Avengers Doomsday surprised the fans… But not as much as the return of Robert Downey Jr. in the role of Doom, which occurred a few months earlier. MCU fans understood this, to save the Marvel ship from its poor box office performances and public disinterest in new heroes, the studios have chosen to bring back known faces. Moreover, one of Captain America’s allies, his lover Peggy Carter, will also be there. On the other hand, we do not yet know which character the actor will take on the costume. Fans have shared multiple times on social media their theories that it will be Captain Hydra, and according to our colleagues at Screen Rant, this hypothesis is supported by a scene cut from‘Avengers Age of Ultron.
Imagine laying down your life and making the sacrifice play against fascists and the evil, only to be called one of them. I get why he didn’t wear his helmet during this fight.

In the deleted scene in question, which you can check out above, Captain America, Hawkeye, Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch arrive in Sokovia. As he gets off the Quinjet, Steve Rogers notices a tag representing him with his famous helmet topped with a white “A”, eyes painted a devilish red, with the phrase “fascist” written over them. The superhero doesn’t comment out loud at this point, he removes his mask and throws it away. However, you can see from his face that he is affected by the Sokovites’ perception of him. If he is the darling of Americans, the rest of the world does not necessarily consider him a savior, and his perfect image of a liberator may have played tricks on him. Moreover, the arrival “with great fanfare” of the Avengers in Sokovia will not have allowed them to save the people from the dangers of Ultronfueling this fear of fascism…
The possible influence of this cut scene on Avengers Doomsday
Since it seems impossible (an insufficient reason for Marvel) and completely absurd (enough?) that Chris Evans returns as Johnny Storm after his appearance in Deadpool & Wolverinethere are strong chance that he will return as a variant of Captain America. SinceAvengers Doomsday looks like a kind of dystopian version of Earth-616 as we know it, with Tony Stark as an evil genius, Steve Rogers’ fear of fascism could serve as a breeding ground for his comeback. What nightmare is worse than becoming the very object of your obsession?
In the comics, Captain Hydra is its evil variant from another timeline, in which he joined the famous terrorist organization. Throughout his trajectory in the MCU, Steve Rogers has battled accusations of fascism linked to his public image, and stood firm in his boots without deviating from his course of action. Nothing says that its variants have all done the sameand one of them could quite, thanks to the current versatility of the Multiverse, come and sow chaos in Avengers Doomsday… Corroborating the Sokovites’ allegations.
And you, what do you think?
