a sadistic extract from Final Destination for the horror film based on Stephen King

After LonglegsOz Perkins is already preparing another horror film, The Monkeywhich revealed itself in a sadistic extract (which recalls the best of Destination Finale).

For around ten years now, director Oz Perkins – son Anthony Perkins, aka Norman Bates in Psychosisfor the record – arouses the interest of horror fans, including a good part of the editorial staff. He stood out a little more with the success of his Gretel & Hansel in 2020, then again this year with Longlegs (which fuels interesting debates if not unanimous).

The filmmaker is therefore not about to change register or take a sabbatical year since he already has, not one, but two other horror films on the way: The Monkey adapted from a short story by Stephen King and Keeper. If the second remains nebulous, the first has already revealed a very trashy and lit trailer with some burlesque outbursts which promise a very sadistic and more entertaining massacre. And it’s not the fiery extract recently revealed which indicates the opposite.

Divergent, again

THE MONKEY MEN

The Monkey will revolve around Bill and Hal, twin brothers who find an old (creepy) toy that belonged to their father in their attic. What follows is a series of horrific deaths in those around them. And in fact, the distributor Neon revealed an extract from one of these deaths, which seem replay the gruesome executions of the saga Destination Finalebut with greater mastery and aesthetics.

According to this extract and the trailer, even if on paper it has a pitch modeled on a thousand others, The Monkey will not be devoid of dark and macabre humor, nor of talent in the credits. The film is produced by James Wan, who – we hope – had a sharper nose than for Spiral, Insidious 5, M3GAN, Aquaman 2 or lately Salem

On the casting side, after the Nicolas Cage-Maika Monroe duo, it’s Theo James, recently seen in the series The Gentlemen by Guy Ritchie, who will headline the double role of Bill and Hal. The rest of the cast includes Elijah Wood, Laura Mennell (Watchmen) and Tatiana Maslany, who should also be seen in Keeper.

The Monkey will be released in cinemas on February 19.
