There is still a week left until the end of the year, but everything indicates that we already know what the highest grossing film of 2024. As SensaCine says, the top positions in the ranking that we will see below will hardly move. In this sense, we can expect that photography will not change at all after Christmas.
Data from Box Office Mojo, an IMDb page, indicate that 'Inside Out 2' is the highest-grossing film of the year, with $1,698,641 million raised worldwide since its release. The podium is completed by 'Deadpool and Wolverine', with $1,338,073 million, and 'Despicable Me 4', with $969,187 million at the box office.
Disney, the big winner at the box office of 2024
'Inside Out 2' was made with a budget of 200 million dollars. If we take into account the data mentioned above, the project has been a real success. But there is more. It has also become the highest grossing animated film of all timesurpassing 'The Lion King', which grossed $1,656,943 after its premiere in 2019.
'The Lion King' had a slightly higher budget than 'Inside Out 2'. The film was made possible thanks to an outlay of 260 million dollars. Taking into account the inflation of the last five years, we would be talking about just over 320 million dollars. As we can see, The Walt Disney Company is once again the main protagonist.
Disney lost much of its shine in 2023. 'Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3', 'The Little Mermaid' and 'The Marvels' failed to reach the level of success that the company has accustomed us to. In 2019, remember, Disney was present in seven of the ten highest-grossing films. But that unstoppable success faded and it seems to be recovering.

If we look closely at the top ten of the list of the highest-grossing films of 2024, we will discover that Mickey Mouse's house is present in three of the productions ('Inside Out 2', 'Deadpool and Wolverine' and 'Moana 2'). And we also discovered that originality is the great absence: we do not find completely new stories.
We promote sequels and films that are based on previously established franchises, but no original script that refreshes the box office. As we pointed out a few weeks ago, to find a film that does not meet these conditions we must leave the top 10. Specifically, move up to number 15 to find 'Breaking the Circle'.
