After a limited theatrical release, Netflix launches on its platform the war drama that explores an aspect of the history of the Second World War very little known.
Titled “ The Six Triple Eight” (Six Triple Eight), this film directed by Tyler Perry introduces us to the first and only black unit of the Women's Army Corps. This group of women were in charge of classifying thousands of letters that accumulated during the war in Europe. The work of these women helped empty the lines of communication for the Allies.

In addition to fighting for a good cause, these women also had to deal with segregation and racism, something that was common at that time. Despite the problems, they were united in their determination to fulfill the mission given to them. These unsung heroines brought hope and broke down barriers.
Perry took this long-overlooked history based on Kevin M. Hymel's article in WWII History Magazine.
To bring the “6888th Central Postal Directory Battalion” to life, the director recruited A-list stars, such as Kerry Washington, Oprah Winfrey, Susan Sarandon, Ebony Obsidian, Dean Norris, Sam Waterston, Milauna Jackson, Kylie Jefferson, Shanice Shantay, Sarah Jeffery, Pepi Sonuga, among others.
Kerry Washington steps into the shoes of Major Charity Adams, the one responsible for commanding a battalion of female soldiers. Adams became the highest-ranking black officer during World War II. Her work leading the 6888th, the inspiration she left in its members, and her arduous service during the war helped open opportunities for African-American women in the US military.
“Six Triple Eight” is available on Netflix worldwide from December 20 and what better than the weekend to learn about this incredible story.
