The film career of Jesse Eisenberg It’s been a constant roller coaster. In ‘The Social Network’, Eisenberg gave his best performance as Mark Zuckerberg in the Facebook origin story directed by David Fincher. Currently, he has made the leap to directing and his first film ‘A Real Pain’ has been well received and It may even get an Oscar nomination. However, in between, Jesse Eisenberg had a resounding setback in his career: the role of Lex Luthor in the criticized ‘Batman v Superman’. The actor has admitted that that role damaged his career.
A failing career according to the actor himself
Jesse Eisenberg has been very critical of his role after the fact and admits that it caused a downturn in his career. In an interview on Armchair Expert, the actor admits the following: “I’ve never said it before and it’s a little embarrassing to admit, but I really think it hurt my career in a real way.”because I was poorly received in something so public. I’ve been in poorly received things that just don’t see the light of day, and for the most part, no one knows about it, but this was very public, and I don’t read ads or reviews or film press or anything, so I wasn’t aware of how poorly received it was.”
‘Batman v Superman’ was released in 2016 and It was the second film in the DC Extended Universe after from ‘Man of Steel’ (2013). It did well at the box office, as it grossed almost 900 million dollars worldwide compared to the 250 million it cost. However, The critical response was not at all favorable. Professionals denigrated the film, admitting that it “smothers a potentially powerful story and some of America’s most iconic superheroes in a “Gloomy whirlwind of special-effects-driven action”. Viewers were somewhat lukewarm, but the film was one of DC’s most notorious failures. Next year, James Gunn will release the new version of ‘Superman’.
