As Marvel Studios actively prepares for its Phase 6, rumors suggest that Tom Holland could face one of its worst threats in Spider-Man 4.
Marvel Studios is preparing its Phase 6 with such fervor that we wonder if the Maison des Idées has not neglected its current Phase 5 a little. The flagship projects are obviously Avengers : Doomsday et Avengers : Secret Warsmarking the return of the Russo brothers to directing. Robert Downey Jr. will return as Dr. Doom, for a huge payout, while speculation surrounds Chris Evans and the character he will play, with some pointing to a possible return as the sadistic villain.
At the same time, Spider-Man 4 will occupy a strategic position, being scheduled between the next two films Avengers. Rumors are circulating about a possible return of Willem Dafoe in the role of the Green Goblin or the arrival of Venom. However, more recent information suggests that Spider-Man’s main adversary could be a much worse entity than these guys in suits, and she would already be present in the MCU.

According to insider Jeff Sneider’s sources, Spider-Man’s next nemesis could be Mephisto, an entity often compared to the devil in the Marvel universe. A creep known for manipulating souls and making sinister and twisted pacts with heroes. Its introduction in Spider-Man 4 would represent a major turning point, by no longer confronting Peter Parker with big bad guys who must be punched until they are knocked out, but rather with moral dilemmas and supernatural issues where he risks losing his soul.
In Marvel comics, Mephisto is Spider-Man’s major enemy during the story arc. Spider-Man : One More Day. An arc that sees Spidey make a pact with the Devil to resurrect Aunt May, in exchange for the outright erasure of his marriage to Mary Jane Watson. In the process, Mephisto erases from the memory of all humanity the memory of Spider-Man’s true identity. Any resemblance to the issues of No Way Home are obviously not accidental.

The introduction of the villain in Spider-Man 4 could have repercussions beyond the film itself, influencing the entire Phase 6 of the MCU. His presence could establish links with other mystical characters (Dr. Strange obviously, but also a possible Ghost Rider).
