No matter how many years pass, Mark Hamill will remain one of the most iconic Star Wars figures. His interpretation of Luke Skywalker is a pillar in film history and one of the most remembered characters in science fiction. However, his journey in this legendary galaxy did not start in the best way.

In an interview for the Politickin’ podcast with Gavin Newsom, Marshawn Lynch and Doug Hendrickson, Hamill shared a curious anecdote about his first steps in Star Wars. During his audition, he did not realize that George Lucas, the visionary behind the saga, was present in the room evaluating the actors who would bring his characters to life.

You know, there were fifty guys there, you know, guys like Han Solo and Luke. And I asked one of the actors, “Who was Brian DePalma’s assistant there, the guy with the beard who didn’t say a word?” They said, “You idiot, that was George Lucas.” I said, “Oh, he didn’t say anything.”

According to Hamill, the face of George Lucas It was not as recognized back then as it is today. That is why he did not realize his presence until another candidate for the role of Luke Skywalker, who did identify the director, informed him who he really was.

In the same interview, Hamill admitted that he didn’t have high expectations for the film at first. However, his perception changed drastically, as he was not only part of one of the most influential productions in science fiction, but also contributed to transforming the film and entertainment industry as we know it today.
