Kad Merad in top form. This Monday, December 16 at 9:10 p.m., France 3 broadcasts the film A triumph with the companion of Julia Vignali. Released in cinemas in 2020, the feature film tells the story of Etienne Carboni, a theater actor in need of roles who carries out his first mission in prison. To carry out his mission, he must prepare a play with inmates. While the pressure is strong on Etienne Carboni, he decides to start his workshop with fables by La Fontaine. But Patrick, Alex, Kamel and Jordan, the prisoners with whom he works, do not seem very interested in the fables of the man of letters, especially since they would like to put on a comic show. Enough to give Etienne Carboni a cold sweat who will redouble his efforts to discipline the prisoners who will give him a great lesson in humility.
A triumph : Kad Merad shines in this feature film released in 2020
Funny and touching, A Triumph by Emmanuel Courcol won over the crowds when it was released in 2020 and the film even received the audience prize at the Angoulême festival. Inspired by real events, the feature film allows the viewer to discover the hidden sides of the prison world where inmates can escape from their daily lives with exercises such as putting on plays. Emmanuel Courcol chose professional actors who were unknown or little known to the public. “The difficulty was to play on two registers: the first very naturalistic, spontaneous, almost documentary; the second very theatrical, knowing how to read and interpret a text. A highly difficult exercise: nothing is worse for a good actor than playing a bad actor”said the director in an interview.
A triumph : where was the film shot?
Leaving aside humor and comedy, Kad Merad signs in A triumph one of his best roles of his career, playing the lonely and depressive Etienne Carboni. “He is someone who is on the sidelines, who needs to work his hours, who needs to rekindle the flame of his profession, to exist, to be someone. He will, initially, not think only of him, but in contact with these inmates, who are not actors, who play false but who are real and that's what is right, he will transform, and find this little flame. Kad Merad declared in an interview with Radio France. To successfully complete the filming ofA triumph, Emmanuel Courcol and Kad Merad worked in conjunction with the work of Irène Muscari, cultural coordinator for the Penitentiary Integration and Probation Service at Meaux Prison Center, where the film was shot.
