The blizzard howls outside, lashing like a whip against the thick walls of Chinon Castle. Inside, the heat of the hearth fails to dissipate the icy cold that emanates from hearts. It's Christmas 1183, but no joy warms the faces of the characters in the Lion in Winter (1968).

The film takes us into a royal family chamber, a trap where words are blades and smiles, masks. King Henry II, the Lion in Winter, aging and consumed by paranoia, summons his family for Christmas: his wife Eleanor of Aquitaine, imprisoned for treachery for years and released for the occasion, as well as their three sons, Richard , Geoffroy and Jean. The issue? Designate the heir to the throne, the one who will carry the crown and the weight of a crumbling empire.

Directed by Anthony Harvey, The Lion in Winter (1968) is about to resurface. In Great Britain, Studiocanal has just made official the upcoming release of the film for the first time in 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray. A release expected from February 17.

The film will be presented in a restored version in 4K (par Studiocanal) the images of which can be discovered in the attached trailer. The full specifications of the video disc will be communicated soon.
