George Lucas hates this Star Wars movie, the series winks at him

The Skeleton Crew series gently pokes fun at a Star Wars film that George Lucas would love to never hear about again. The reference is subtle, here is the scene where it appears.

With a universe as vast as that of Star Warseach new film or new series can easily draw on the others to slip in more or less subtle references. Sometimes it helps to tie series together, sometimes it's just a fun little wink that has no impact on the plot. Skeleton Crew, recently released on Disney+, chose the second way of doing things.

We might as well tell you right away: there's no need to look for an appearance in the background suggesting a very important character or a double-meaning sentence revealing the plot to come. The team of Skeleton Crew simply wanted to have fun, probably to the chagrin of George Lucascreator of Star Wars. The wink in question concerns a film Star Wars which he would like to see fall into oblivion.

Skeleton Crew makes a reference to a very obscure Star Wars film

What exactly are we talking about? The scene takes place during the first episode of Skeleton Crew. For a few seconds, we see Neels' siblings at home, in front of a holographic table broadcasting people in colorful costumes. It's fleeting, but it must be seen as a reference to the film In the time of Star Wars of 1978, also known as The Star Wars Holiday Special.

You should know that The Star Wars Holiday Special was broadcast only once on television before disappearing completely. Everyone agrees that the film is an abysmal disaster, with George Lucas in the lead. His only useful participation in the universe is to have introduced for the first time the character of Boba Fett in an animated segment.
