During its episode 3, the series Star Wars : Skeleton Crew on Disney+ made a major revelation regarding Jod Na Nawood, the character played by Jude Law. Attention Spoilers !
The universe Star Wars on the small screen is shifting ground. If works like The Mandalorian et Andor have managed to establish themselves as essential, other attempts have been less successful. We send a moving thought to The Acolytewho did not make it through his first season, and shamefully Book of Boba Fettwhich amounted to an indigestible accumulation of fan-service.
In this context, the series Skeleton Crewcreated by Jon Watts (director of Spider-Man with Tom Holland) and Christopher Ford (screenwriter of Homecoming), arrives with singular ambitions: to take up the canon of Star Wars and revisit it via a prism that recalls Stranger Things or The Goonies.
The series follows a group of four young adventurers lost in the galaxy, Wim, Neel, Fern and KB, under the leadership of a mysterious mentor played by Jude Law, who presents himself under the pseudonym of Jod Na Nawood, a supposed Jedi in leak. We expected the enigma of this character’s real name to last the entire season, but no: episode 3 of the series revealed what his real identity was..
Saïan Supa Skeleton Crew
First introduced as a prisoner of the Port Borgo pirates, Jude Law’s character proposed an alliance with the four young heroes to escape, using what appear to be Jedi powers. But this facade quickly crumbles: during episode 3 of the first season, a guard identifies Jod Na Nawood as “Captain Silvo”.
A little later during the same episode, with the introduction of Kh’ymm, a creature expert in relics, another revelation confirms Silvo’s true nature: it is actually the pirate Crimson Jack. The latter is far from being an unknown character for fans of the extended universe Star Wars.
Notorious space pirate, he crossed paths with Han Solo in the comics of the 1980s numerous times, notably by trying to defraud the Rebellion, or by trying to seduce Leia. His death at the hands of Solo in a quick duel marked an end to his career as brief as it was emblematic.
In the Court of the Crimson King
With Skeleton CrewCrimson Jack therefore returns to the canon, but in a revisited form. Unlike its original incarnation, which had no affinity with the Force, this new version leaves doubt: Is he a fallen Jedi, a survivor of Order 66, or a simple opportunist pretending to manipulate the Force to serve his purposes?
The exact nature of Crimson Jack’s “powers” remains a mystery. Episode 3 even sows doubt by suggesting that he could just as well be bluffing as having a real connection to the Force. If Crimson Jack turns out to be a hidden Jedi, it would mark a huge evolution of the character from his historical model.
In an interview given to EW published on December 11, 2024, Jude Law seems to assure that Crimson Jack does indeed have Force sensitivity.. However, you will have to wait until episode 8 of Skeleton Crew to know the truth about this.
« This will only really be revealed towards the end. At this point, you’ll really get a glimpse into his history and why he can wield the Force and be Force-sensitive. »
The first three episodes of Star Wars : Skeleton Crew are available on Disney+. A new episode will then be released every Wednesday.
