The Pokémon franchise is certainly not finished having the wind in its sails and, surprise: a new cinematographic project has just been announced. And for once, this one promises to be frankly original.
Pokémon X Aardman
The Pokémon universe has already been well exploited on the small and big screen and thank goodness, it's not close to being over. We have actually just learned a collaboration between The Pokémon Company International and Aardman for a completely new project! For the record, Aardman is a particularly cult English animation studio specializing in stop-motion, with the specificity of plasticine animation.
Wallace & Gromit, Chicken Run, Souris City, Shaun the Sheep are all by Aardman and the company will therefore tackle the Pokémon franchise very soon. We do not yet know if it will be a feature film or a series, but the project will be brought to light in 2027. We still have time to see it coming, but we can already fall back on a first video teaser, here.
The hype is present
It must be admitted that a Pokémon project by Aardman is a general surprise: at this point, it's difficult not to be curious about what the studio is preparing. Its general manager, Sean Clarke, also made a cheerful statement:
It is a huge honor to work with The Pokémon Company International. We feel truly privileged to be able to bring their characters and their world to life in a whole new way. Bringing together Pokémon, the world's biggest entertainment brand, with our love of craft, characters and comedic storytelling is incredibly exciting.
Aardman and The Pokémon Company share the importance of heritage and attention to detail, as well as putting our fans and audiences at the heart of what we do, which we know will guide us in the right direction then that together we will create exciting, original and new stories for audiences around the world.
For his part, Taito Okiura, vice president of marketing and media for The Pokémon Company, announced “be blown away by the talent and creativity” d'Aardman, even guaranteeing that what both parties have worked on “will delight fans around the world.” We are very excited and just have to be patient.
