After achievements in the action genre, DJ Caruso tried to seduce the public with an ambitious biblical fresco. Marie, worn by Noa Cohen and Anthony Hopkins, promised an explosive mix of spectacle and reflection. Unfortunately, the bet seems lost according to the first reactions. The story opens with the story of Anne and Joachim, a couple imploring God to have a child. We then follow the birth and her evolution of Mary, until the moment she is taken to the Temple.

Nevertheless, its main objective remains to nourish the viewer's faith rather than to question it.
The Telegraph is clear, this biblical biopic from Netflix is undoubtedly the worst film of the year. A disastrous choice at all levels, from production to interpretation, including a more than doubtful scenario.
Neither Netflix nor director DJ Caruso come out winners from this adaptation of Marie's life. The critics are unanimous: the film is a dismal failure… As a reminder, the film has been available on the SVOD Netflix platform since December 6, 2024.
