Is a sequel to the horror film with Hugh Grant in the pipeline?

The critical and popular success of Heretic with Hugh Grant inspires its authors Scott Beck and Bryan Woods. But maybe not in the way you expected.

Just out of the industrial disaster 65 – The Earth Before, directors and screenwriters Scott Beck and Bryan Woods were treated to a great redemption with Heretic. This story of young Mormon women who came to convert a worrying Hugh Grant, distributed by A24 in the United States, attracted great reviews from the press, both American and French. And the film largely made its money back small budget under $10 millionwith already 35 million at the worldwide box office.

The duo of filmmakers, who made their mark in Hollywood thanks to the script of Without a soundis now carefully monitored. In an interview given to Varietyhe returned to the film, but also on hypothetical follow-up projects.

« Welcome to Variety«

Heretic alternative universe

The interview covers several topics. We learn in particular that Woods and Beck were convinced of Grant’s ability to change register by watching Cloud Atlaswhere he plays an already terrifying role.

So also came the subject of sequels, or rather in this case, of “spiritual suites”.

“We have things in stock, which we talked about more specifically and which look more like spiritual sequels. They deal with religion, cults or other sensitive subjects that we want to see on screen and which take us to uncomfortable places. What was exciting about Heretic was that we saw so many films that could be religious in nature, but didn’t necessarily provide a foundation for a conversation that you could carry on.

“So, you’re going to do a Marvel?” »

If you want to continue thinking about this by having conversations about these ideas with your friends, family, or loved ones, you can do so here. We are now in a world that is so divisive, so polarizing at times, that there are many debates that captivate us. We want to inject that into some of our next projects. »

Brief, the two directors intend to continue on this pathand tackle other themes that regularly transform the worst social networks into antechambers of hell. We will therefore prefer cinemas when future projects are released, with or without the devilishly charming smile of Hugh Grant.
