The Hollywood studio Warner Bros announced on Friday that it planned to launch a new film by Denis Villeneuve on December 18, 2026, without however giving the slightest clue as to the nature of the project.

Logically, this could be the third part of the saga. Dunean adaptation of the novel The Messiah of Dune whose construction was confirmed by Warner and the Legendary Entertainment studio last April.

But several specialized American sites suggest that this mysterious film event by Villeneuve could also be the adaptation of the book Nuclear War: A Scenario, another Warner and Legendary-led project announced earlier this year. Written by American journalist Annie Jacobsen, Nuclear War: A Scenario chronologically explores the events that would follow the outbreak of a nuclear war.

Let us recall that Denis Villeneuve has already said in several interviews that he wanted to make another film before tackling the third part of his science fiction saga. Dune.

We also know that the Quebec filmmaker has several projects on his work table at the moment. In addition to Dune 3 and of Nuclear War: A ScenarioVilleneuve is working on a film project on the life of Cleopatra and on an adaptation of the science fiction novel Meeting with Ramaby author Arthur C. Clarke.

Released last March, his most recent film, Dune: part twoachieved dazzling success at the global box office, grossing over $711 million at the box office.
