A winning trio. This weekend, Netflix’s 270 million subscribers worldwide flocked to one of the streaming giant’s latest original productions. Posted online on Friday June 28 at 9:10 a.m., the film “The Underside of the Family”, a romance starring Joey King, Nicole Kidman and Zac Efron, took the ranking of the most consumed feature films by storm on the platform. According to the specialized site FlixPatrol, which analyzes Netflix data daily, the romantic comedy has topped the charts in more than 81 countries including France, the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, Italy or even Sweden.

Result: the film “Riposte” with Jessica Alba slips to second position in the ranking while the 1997 thriller “Kiss the Girls” still occupies the last place on the podium. Note that the French film “Sous la Seine” continues to be a hit all over the world. More than three weeks after its release, the shark feature film which has already accumulated 80 million views is still the fourth most consumed film in the world on Netflix.

What is “The Underside of the Family” about?

Directed by Richard LaGravenese, who has directed many successful films such as “Beautiful Creatures” and “PS I Love You”, “The Family Secret” tells the adventures of Zara (Joey King, heroine of the “The Kissing Booth” saga), the assistant of one of Hollywood’s biggest stars, Chris Cole (played by the former star of “High School Musical”, Zac Efron). While she dreams of becoming a film producer, the young woman must fulfill her employer’s every whim day and night. One day, the latter decides to slam the door… But when he comes to apologize at her home, Chris Cole comes face to face with her employer’s mother, Brooke, played by Nicole Kidman. And then, it’s love at first sight…

Focused on the screenplay by Carrie Solomon, the feature film also highlights Kathy Bates, who recently distinguished herself in “The Miracle Club”, a film released in theaters at the start of the year, without forgetting the YouTuber and actress Liza Koshy, who made fun of her fall during the prestigious 2024 Oscars evening organized in March. A choice casting which seems to have won over Netflix users.
