After a first CGI remake – technically impressive, but which felt reheated – Disney is finally embarking on the path of the unprecedented. The company hopes to replicate 2019's miracle by chronicling Mufasa's rise and conflict with his brother Scar. It is no longer fragile health and his position as cadet which are the source of resentment. Simba's father is now presented as an orphan adopted by the pack and who will shine as the natural leader of the clan to the detriment of the natural heir: Scar. The trailer shared this weekend delves deeper into this dynamic, being careful not to say too much about the rift between the two feuding brothers.
Moreover, Scar is presented under another name: Taka. As a reminder, in the 1994 animated classic, he was the only one not to have a name in Swahili. This nickname was obviously linked to the scar he sports on his face in animation and which is not yet present here. It was undoubtedly the encounter with a clan of white lions that earned him this stigma. We can see ferocious felines who will give our two heroes a hard time.
Everyone is in the game
Its status as a prequel should not offer Mufasa the opportunity to bring together the emblematic characters of the animated universe. Thanks to a narrative sleight of hand, Timon and Pumbaa will be on the trip. They will accompany Rafiki's story and add a few anecdotes to this story that resembles a Shakespearean tragedy. Mufasa's approach is reminiscent of The Lion King 3which told Simba's story through the eyes of his sidekicks.
It's a safe bet that they will be at the epicenter of some comic interludes. In the English version, Seth Rogen et Billy Eichner resume service in all cases. This time they will respond to Aaron Pierre (Mufasa), Kevin Harrison Jr. (Taka) et John Kani (Rafiki). Donald Glover will also appear to once again lend his voice to Simba. Beyoncé and her daughter Blue-Ivy Carter will also be on the trip, the first to play Nala, the second to play Kiara. Finally, Thank you Newton will be Eshe, while Mads Mikkelsen will once again stand out on the side of the villains to play a character called Kiros.
