For his second opus, Latvian director Gints Zilbalodis hits a huge blow in the world of cartoon. Providing the script, music and animation himself, he offers us a absolute marvel intended for all generations.
A film without words
what a movie without wordsputs us in the presence of a chat who seems to live a quiet life in a house which was, one imagines, recently inhabited by men. But now the animal’s daily life is disrupted by a monstrous flood putting it in danger. He will only have to save his life by boarding at the last minute, when the water is already wet his paws, aboard a very basic skiff passing not far from his final refuge. A lemur who collects anything, a rather nice dog, a slightly clumsy capybara and a slightly haughty white wader will be his comrades in misfortune. The moth-eaten sail which serves as the engine of this raft of the Medusa will push them towards half-sunken cities worthy of the most fantastic adventure novels.
An odyssey with a powerful message
Little by little, this mini-menagerie will learn to live together and even to help each other. The cat will even go so far as to… dive to bring fish back to his new friends. The landscapes crossed are of breathtaking beauty, the animation is of virtuosity and a depth of field which literally leaves one speechless with admiration. The soundtrack scrutinizes the slightest noise with an acuity that leaves any need for language far behind. These animals move without any anthropomorphism. They are as nature created them. The cat, more particularly, he is the hero anyway, is drawn and animated with a realism attitudes and movements, reflexes and meows that make it more real than true. A masterpiece !
Through this odyssey, the director talks to us about the imperative need to help each other, to accept differences. The message, thus brought to the screen, is of such simplicity and such quiet force that it becomes dizzying. powerful.
A must see!!!
