After announcing the closure of the Blue Sky studio in 2021, Disney has just announced excellent news that will delight fans of Ice Age.
Ice Age: good news for fans
Founded in 1987, the Blue Sky studio scored a huge milestone in 2002 with its first animated feature film: Ice Age. This prehistoric comedy, which tells us the adventures of the mammoth Manfred, the saber-toothed tiger Diego and the sloth Sid, met with immense critical and public success. If Blue Sky tried its hand at other universes (Horton, Rio, The Unknowns), the license Ice Age remained the keystone of their economic system. To the point of being entitled to four sequels : Ice Age 2 (2006), Ice Age 3: Age of Dinosaurs (2009), Ice Age 4: Continental Drift (2012) et Ice Age 5: The Laws of the Universe (2016).
Although the box office of films Ice Age grew until the fourth part, approaching 900 million dollars in revenue, The Laws of the Universe were disappointing, with the film only grossing $408 million. However, it has (far) exceeded its break-even point. But on February 9, 2021, the Disney group – which became the owner of Blue Sky following the acquisition of 21st Century Fox – announced its decision to close the animation studio behind Ice Agedue to the drop in activity due to the Covid-19 pandemic. While fans made their anger known, the big-eared band said a spin-off film titled Ice Age: The Adventures of Buck Wild and a series The Adventures of Scrat would be released as original programs on Disney+. They left, in indifference.
Two years later, on the occasion of the D23 which is currently being held in Brazil, the Disney group has just announced in a video that a film Ice Age 6 is currently in production.

Scheduled for 2026, Ice Age 6 will mark the return of the entire cast of the saga. Disney also announced that the film will be released in theaters, before integrating the Disney+ platform. We hope that the feature film will not be too much for the saga.
