The Ecran Large podcast: how is film criticism going? (spoiler: not very good)

For these new episodes of La Réu' d'Ecran Large, we decided to talk… about our job, and about film criticism. Yes, just that.

Where is film criticism? Vague question in a media system that is increasingly changing and fragmented across various platforms, whether web or paper press. Between the economic contingencies of a structure like Ecran Large and ever more numerous works, how can we talk about films and series?

We have already talked about it, between the arbitrary rules of Google and GAFAM, the consideration of film criticism by the studios and the overall state of the press, which often generates a lot of incomprehension or clichés (the famous Disney check …). But we said to ourselves that this was the opportunity to come back with pedagogy and honesty on the ups, downs and developments of our profession.

For the first part of this new Réu' d'Ecran Large, we take a quick look at the press. The second part (available on November 4) will return to the place taken by influencers in the world of criticism. The third part (available on November 21) will examine the issues surrounding press screenings. And finally, the last part (available on November 28) will be a little more optimistic. We will come back to our pleasure of writing, and the importance of continuing.
