OSS 117: Cairo, Nest of Spies and OSS 117: Rio no longer responds
There are comedies that play with racist clichés to make their audience laugh, and there are those that make fun of those who play with racist clichés to achieve the same result. In the 2000s, director Michel Hazanavicius tried to enter the second category thanks to two films that are now completely cult: OSS 117: Cairo, nest of spies et OSS 117: Rio no longer responds. As a reminder, these two films are (very free) adaptations of the literary series OSS 117 in which Jean Dujardin plays the role of Hubert Bonisseur de La Bath, alias OSS 117, a French secret agent working for the Office of Strategic Services. Whether you have never seen these two monuments of French comedy or want to see them again as easily as possible, you will be able to watch them by subscribing to Netflix from November 1, 2024! Unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on your tastes), the third and final opus of the saga (OSS 117: Red Alert in Black Africa) has not yet joined the catalog. Maybe next time?
Yannick
Among the country’s most prolific filmmakers, we cannot miss Quentin Dupieux. In the last two years alone, he has released no less than five different films in theaters, including some of the best of their respective years according to some critics. But if you have never dared to buy a cinema ticket to discover its films as quirky as they are original, you will finally be able to take advantage of your Netflix subscription to do so. In fact, from November 2, the SVOD platform will add Yannick to its catalog. As a reminder, this is a black comedy released in 2023 starring Blanche Gardin, Pio Marmaï, Sébastien Chassagne and especially Raphaël Quenard in the eponymous role. The film takes place during a mediocre play during which a spectator named Yannick decides to get up and interrupt the whole thing before taking the room and the actors hostage while he writes something of better quality . Very well received by the press and spectators alike, Yannick also distinguished himself during the Césars ceremony since he won the awards for Best Actor for Raphaël Quenard and Best Supporting Actor for Pio Marmaï. We won’t tell you any more, you can discover the rest from November 2.

This year, actor Artus achieved the double feat of directing his first film (A little something extra) and make it one of the 100 biggest hits in French cinema, just behind The Big Blue by Luc Besson. But before going behind the camera, he also appeared in the cast of many different films, including the very recent We apologize for the inconvenience caused.. Directed by Olivier Van Hoofstadt, this Franco-Belgian comedy puts Artus in the role of Sébastien, an SNCF transport controller who dreams of being transferred to the south of France. To get there, however, he must make one last trip while being monitored by Madeleine, a particularly meticulous inspector. Unfortunately for Sébastien, this famous journey may well be the worst of his life given the crazy people inside the train, not to mention the driver himself who will not hesitate to go much too fast… If you don’t If you haven’t been to see this comedy in the cinema, you will be able to discover it without moving from your sofa thanks to its addition to the Netflix catalog, from November 9.
Cry Macho
Well, we would have made you a 100% French cinema list, but we said to ourselves that you will really need a little fresh air in the middle of all these productions from France. If French comedies and dramas aren’t for you, rest assured, you’ll also be able to enjoy international additions this month on Netflix. In addition to those that you will find in our list below, you will especially be able to discover Cry MachoClint Eastwood’s very last film (at least before Juror #2 which has just arrived in cinemas, and which could well be the last film of his career since the American filmmaker is still 94 years old). Originally released in 2021 in theaters, Cry Macho tells the story of Mike Milo, a former rodeo star played by Clint Eastwood. Retrained as a horse breeder in Texas following a serious injury, he was contacted again by a former boss during the year 1980. At his request, Mike will have to go to Mexico to find his son Rafael who lives there with his mother alcoholic. Although it has not been particularly well received by critics or spectators, Clint Eastwood’s films still generally manage to satisfy a certain audience. If you are one of them, all you have to do is wait until November 10 to be able to enjoy Cry Macho on Netflix.

Santa & Cie
Have you always dreamed of seeing Alain Chabat as Santa Claus? No ? Well, you can still do it by subscribing to Netflix from November 17! In fact, in case you didn’t know, the French actor and director made a film called Santa & Cie in 2017 in which he played none other than Santa Claus himself. This adventure comedy, perfect for Christmas (and therefore a little ahead of Netflix, but we have to raise the mood before December) of course tells the story of the man in the red suit and the gray beard so that he faces a terrible problem: his 92,000 elves all fall ill in the middle of preparing Christmas presents. Santa Claus must therefore, once in a while, take his sleigh outside of the big evening (no, not the socialist one, the other one) to fetch enough Vitamin C to treat all his comrades. Unfortunately, he will not be able to do this without revealing himself to the population, who are unlikely to believe his story in the blink of an eye… If you missed this Christmas film when it was released in 2017, Netflix therefore invites you to discover it several years later, from November 17 of this year. According to the critics, it’s not really Alain Chabat’s best film, but we imagine that it’s watchable.
