45 years old and all his teeth
You may not have known it, but like me, the Alien franchise is celebrating its 45th anniversary, with a surprise for nostalgic fans. The movie Alien: Romulus
released in August 2024, will be available in limited edition on VHS from December 3, 2024. This amazing initiative brings back the iconic magnetic media from the 80s and 90s to the modern era. The release of this film on VHS cassette is accompanied by a version in 4:3 format, reminiscent of the famous cathode ray screens which made us happy at the time. This original idea is part of a current trend where old formats such as vinyl and audio K7s are resurfacing, to the delight of collectors.
A retro case
This special edition was announced by 20th Century Studios during a screening in partnership with Beyond Fest in Los Angeles. The case, designed by artist Matt Ferguson, captures the retro aesthetic of the 80s. to immerse Alien fans in an immersive visual experience upon receipt of the box. In addition to this VHS version, the film will also, of course, be available on more modern media, such as 4K UHD, Blu-ray and DVD, on the same day. Is the movie good at least?
Released in theaters in August, Alien: Romulus
quickly achieved worldwide success, grossing nearly $350 million at the box office. Against all expectations, it is one of the most profitable films in the saga. far surpassing its predecessor, Alien: Covenant
. The film, directed by Fede Alvarez and produced by Ridley Scott, tells the story of a group of young space colonists who discover an abandoned station, inadvertently awakening the terrifying Xenomorphs. The combination of action and horror has won over critics and fans of the franchise from the very beginning.
What if we don’t have a VCR?
For those who no longer have a VCR on hand, don’t worry. Alien: Romulus
will also be available digitally and on major streaming platforms, although the exact release date is not yet confirmed, especially for France with its specific rules on media chronology. This VHS edition is therefore only really aimed at the most passionate collectors. who want to relive the Alien saga in an iconic format.
How do you position yourself in this fashion for the return of vintage? Do you have a vinyl turntable for example? Do you ever turn it on? (Never of course, although it sits in my living room). Oh also, if you need a VCR, you have one available on Amazon.
