This is perhaps one of the most anticipated films of the first half of 2025 on Netflix. The Electric Statenew feature film from brothers Anthony and Joe Russo (Avengers: Infinity War et Endgame, The Gray Man), will be released on the streaming platform on March 14 and its first trailer reveals a science fiction adventure filled with giant robots.

A star of Stranger Things meet a guardian of the galaxy

In The Electric StateMillie Bobby Brown (Stranger Things, The Lady and the Dragon) plays Michelle, an orphaned teenager who must “finding your way in a society where robots that look like cartoon characters and mascots, endowed with conscience and having once served humans, now live in exile after a revolt gone wrong.”

The official synopsis of the film adds that the young girl embarks on a journey through a retro-futuristic version of the United States of the 1990s in search of her brother whom she thought was dead. She will then team up with Cosmo, a mysterious robot, and Keats, a smuggler played by Chris Pratt (Guardians of the Galaxy, Jurassic World).

While presenting the film at New York Comic Con, Pratt also indicated that he intended to take a break from his acting career before receiving the script for The Electric State.

“It’s not the kind of story that’s typically adapted into a blockbuster like this. It’s so original that it’s a big risk,” explained the actor during a panel devoted to the film.

He continues: “I thought these kinds of films might be my last chance to act in a big film like this. I have to look at every opportunity like this, and I did. It’s just a really great story. I was moved to tears reading the script.”

A long-standing project

The Electric State is a film written by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely (who have already collaborated with the Russo brothers on several Marvel films including the last two Avengers), adapted from the illustrated novel by Simon Stålenhag, which Joe and Anthony Russo have been trying to put together for over five years.

Opposite Brown and Pratt, the feature film also stars Ke Huy Quan (Everything Everywhere All at Once), Stanley Tucci (Hunger Games), Jason Alexander (Seinfeld), Giancarlo Esposito (Breaking Bad) et Woody Norman (The final journey of the Demeter).

Woody Harrelson (True Detective), Anthony Mackie (Captain America: Brave New World), Brian Cox (Succession) et Jenny Slate (Parks and Recreation) lend their voices to the robots in the film.

Before being fully occupied again at Marvel, the Russo brothers will deliver The Electric State on Netflix March 14, 2025.
