The new part of the adventures of serial killer Art the Clown took the top spot at the French box office on Wednesday evening, stealing the place from the new Dreamworks animated film.

A French box office captivated by Terrifier 3. The American horror film, banned for minors under 18 in , nevertheless got off to a dazzling start on Wednesday.

With 45,000 admissions, the sequel to the adventures of the perverse clown Art takes first place at the French box office, ahead of the DreamWorks animated film The Wild Robotet Leebiopic of war photographer Lee Miller with Kate Winslet.

“It’s simply amazing,” reacted to BFMTV, the distributor of Terrifier 3Victor Lamoussiere. “I admit I don’t really have the words and am totally overwhelmed by what’s happening.”

Eight times more spectators than for the previous part

The ban on under-18s boosted attendance at the film. With 45,000 entries in one day, according to information from the distributor, Terrifier 3 attracts eight times more spectators for its start than the previous part. Released at the beginning of 2023, it attracted 70,939 curious people across its entire operation.

Terrifier 3 is distributed in 128 theaters throughout France. Faced with word of mouth which preceded the film, theaters requested copies at the last minute.

The average per room is enormous, with around 140 people per session during the day and a peak of 180 spectators during the evening sessions. The final figures for Wednesday will be known in the afternoon.

Terrifier 3 was released in France shrouded in a scent of scandal. At a UK preview, the film caused people to feel sick and vomit. On Wednesday, vomit bags were given to spectators at the entrance to the theaters.

An unbearable scene

Its ban on under-18s by the Classification Commission, a first in twenty years, as well as the promise of an unbearable scene with a chainsaw, made it the must-see film this week.

Terrifier 3 takes place during the Christmas holidays. While Sienna and her brother try to rebuild their lives after surviving the Halloween massacre perpetrated by Art, the latter resurfaces… A fourth part is already in preparation.
