The Tomorrow War, the Prime Video star film starring Chris Pratt, should indeed be entitled to a sequel despite its limited streaming release.

Evil for good

When it was released in 2020, The Tomorrow War created a surprise on Prime Video. Carried by Chris Pratt, the film stood out in the catalog of the Amazon platform, despite more or less mixed reviews. A beneficial turn for a film which nevertheless had to be released in cinemas, as its director, Chris Mckay, regretted toUproxx in 2023.

Of course, we are making a film for the cinema. And when the movie was finished and they were like, “No, we’re going to release it on streaming,” it was a little hard to swallow because I saw it in theaters and I saw how it did . To this day, it is on Amazon. It’s still one of their number 1 films even today.

A sequel that comes to fruition

At the time of this interview, the filmmaker also mentioned the start of work on a direct sequel, a project already mentioned in 2021 by Skydance and Amazon. Chris Mckay would therefore be returning to writing alongside Zach Dean who also worked on the first film before writing for the Fast and Furious saga. And it’s a safe bet that the original cast, despite the death of certain characters, would be back for this sequel, or even in spin-offs as McKay suggested in 2021. The Tomorrow War could therefore become a full-fledged franchise in the years or even months to come.
