Netflix has been trying for years to assert its place as a major player in global pop culture, investing heavily in productions from which it can only hope for success. Sometimes with success…

Always deeper

When it was released in March 2020, The Platform had made a strong impression on spectators and critics alikewinning numerous awards and a good 81% on Rotten Tomatoes. The Spanish film directed by Galder Gaztelu-Urrutia observed a vertical prison whose cells, stacked on top of each other, are connected by a central freight elevator. It is through this freight elevator that the food passes and inevitably, if the first floors can eat their fill, the floors below are forced to eat the leftovers until there is nothing left for the floors furthest from the top.

Praised for its thriller aspect with strong social commentarythe film had enjoyed particular success during the confinement caused by the COVID-19 epidemic, which had led to an increase in its viewing time on Netflix. A success which likely led to the validation of a sequel, since the American company recently released new images from the feature film.

New platform and new rules

Indeed, Netflix recently released the first trailer for Platform 2 (which you can find above)f, a few weeks after previously revealing a first teaser. In his sequel featuring new characters, Gaztelu-Urrutia seems to have designed a film based on the same premise as its predecessor with a few significant changes. In particular, it appears that the rules surrounding the freight elevator and the food it carries have changed, with inmates now having to choose their dish and be ready to eat what they have ordered, all monitored by a sinister blindfolded character who appears to oversee the platform and its prisoners. The tense trailer shows this entirely new cast trying to survive their vertical prison, promising, despite the new rules, violent and bloody conflicts between the inmates. Finally, the platform (streaming this time) took the opportunity to remind us that Platform 2 is scheduled for streaming on October 4 : a film for which you will certainly have to have a strong stomach.
