First trailer for “Suicide Squad” with Marvel’s forgotten heroes

The trailer for the next Marvel, Thunderbolts* just dropped. It brings together a whole bunch of MCU villains and anti-heroes.

2023 was a disastrous year for Marvel with the failure ofAnt-Man 3 and the disaster The Marvelsnot to mention the heavy changes in strategy on Disney+ series to produce less, and better – at least in theory. 2024 thus marks a small break in the MCU program, since there was onlyonly one movie: Deadpool & Wolverine. And given that it’s been such a phenomenal success, Marvel must be rubbing its hands.

But it remains to be seen whether the next, less obvious films will follow the same path. Indeed, if Deadpool and Wolverine are identified and very loved figures by the general public, just like the actors who play them, this is not necessarily the case for the upcoming productions. Starting with Thunderbolts*, which will apparently be a bigger risk for Marvel since it brings together a bunch of supporting actors from previous films, in a sort of MCU Suicide Squad.

The first trailer of Thunderbolts* (the * is apparently important, according to the team)starring Florence Pugh in the foreground, has just been released.

Thunderbolts, Marvel’s Suicide Squad

Thunderbolts* is summarized by everyone as the Suicide Squad from Marvel, and it makes sense: they are supervillains and antiheroes, sent on secret missions to try to redeem themselves.

The characters in question:

  • Yelena Belova aka the other Black Widow (Black Widowthe series Hawkeye)
  • Alexei Shostakov aka Red Guardian (Black Widow)
  • Bucky Barnes aka the Winter Soldier (Captain America 2, Captain America Civil Warthe series Falcon and the Winter Soldier…)
  • John Walker aka US Agent (the series Falcon and the Winter Soldier)
  • Ava Star aka the Ghost (Ant-Man 2)
  • Antonia Dreykox aka Taskmaster (Black Widow)

The trailer punctuated by Where is my Mind? Pixies (original) heavily features Florence Pugh, who is clearly at the center of the plot – or at least the promo. Julia Louis-Dreyfus is also in the role of Valentina de , who will apparently have several lines of dialogue after her brief appearances in the MCU (Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Black Widow, Black Panther 2).

Among the few new faces of Thunderbolts* : Robert Reynolds aka Sentrya character with “the power of a million suns” according to Marvel mythology. He is played by Lewis Pullman.

The real villain of the story is the hairdresser.

Thunderbolt Ross (now played by Harrison Ford) is nevertheless absent from the trailer, while Marvel has not hidden that Red Hulk would be there. No doubt he will be at the forefront of an upcoming trailer.

Verdict April 30, 2025 in theatersrelease date of the film directed by Jake Schreier (The Hidden Face of Margo).

Upcoming MCU theatrical releases:

  • February 2025: Captain America 4
  • May 2025: Thunderbolts*
  • July 2025: The Fantastic Four
  • November 2025: Blade (in theory…)
  • May 2026: Avengers 5
  • May 2027: Avengers 6
